The Statement

Amongst the thirty five statements, four of which I strongly agree upon. The first statement would have to be number ten. I chose this one because I feel that the government should not have a say in video games. Like the movies, video games are already being rated for their content and I believe that is as far as it should go. You do not see the government protesting Saw because of its gore, but you see them instead protesting at digital images of Grand Theft Auto. Next would be statement number fourteen. I chose this statement because the government should watch for pollution. It is their responsibility to make sure our country is not a dump. Another statement that I agree with is number eighteen because as an immigrant I know how hard it is to fully be able to speak another language not your own. Everyone has their own heritage and cultures that is what makes up America. Lastly I strongly agree with number twenty two. Marijuana is not a drug. It less harmful than alcohol and it actually grows out of the ground. There is no reason on why it should be illegal if there are worst things out there that are. If it was legal, it could bring in a lot of taxes into the state and also take a lot of drug dealers out of the business. These statements do not have anything in common.

Even though most of the statements I found pretty important, I found four of them that I did not have a say in. The first one was number eight because patriotism has nothing to do with our government; it is just the love for the country. I find patriotism not right at times since I believe half of our government is corrupt and power hungry. The second statement would have to be number nine. I do not listen to the radio for news; I only listen to it for music. I could care less if it had balanced news coverage. Next I feel that number fifteen does not apply to me as I do not favor same sex couples, yet I do not mind if they want to get married as it is not my problem what they do with their lives. This goes as well for number thirty. These statements are in common because they have to do with personal rights.

During the debate, I did not change any of my desisitions. I stand firm on my believes. I found that most of the students in class have no idea in what they are talking about. Most of them do not even watch the news. Why argue with someone who does not even know what is going on in the world that they live in? At times I even found it aggravating when some of the students did not take the debate serous and went to the other sides just to make everyone else mad. I felt that my strongest opinion was on the marijuana statement. I find the marijuana law simply idiotic and unrealistic. I have known for a while now that the only reason why it was made illegal was because they made it seem like it was a killer drug back in the old days. Further research shows that they made marijuana legal, but the only person who could buy it had to have a certain stamp, which they have never made nor gave out. Their laws are backwards it seems. They use the media to portray it to be so much worse than it really is.

I feel that I am a Liberal. I am a liberal because I want to see change happen in my life time. The world is moving ahead, while the laws stay behind. Our generation has different view points then the previous generation. I feel as though the older generation was raised with rules that do not make any sense. As an example, wearing a hat is disrespectful. In no way is wearing something on your head disrespecting anyone. I feel as it violates my own freedom. People do not have a right to say what not to wear. My views as a liberal have not changed.
